What needs to change?

Region: West Midlands [More West Midlands news...]

A lecture by Professor Ruth Levitas Levitas, University of Bristol: 'What needs to change?' will be delivered at Aston University on Wednesday 9th December 2009 at 6pm in Room MB 644 with refreshments to follow.

As part of Aston’s Year of Gender, Progress and Power, the Vice-Chancellor has invited Professor Ruth Levitas from the University of Bristol to give a lecture at Aston University.

Ruth is predominantly known for her work on utopianism and on social exclusion. She has written widely on contemporary political ideologies and discourses, as well as on New Labour, poverty, inequality and social inclusion and exclusion.

Her lecture will explain what is meant by 'utopia as method'. It will argue that addressing child poverty demands attention to inequality more widely, and especially to gender inequalities. In the context of both economic and ecological crises, it will argue that such utopian thinking is both fruitful and necessary, while what is truly impossible is to continue as we are.
