The Diploma in Languages and International Communication is an exciting new qualification for students aged 14 to 19, which is due to be launched in schools from 2011. It will blend theory and practice to show how languages can be applied at work and at leisure - bringing language learning to life. The innovative programme also aims to teach young people intercultural skills and translation and interpreting skills. It intends to help them learn about the way language works so that they can become independent language learners.
Teachers and others delivering this Diploma will be given training and access to support resources and networks. It is being designed to appeal to students of all abilities with different objectives and will help them develop a range of practical and intellectual skills. Students taking the Diploma will receive a fully-rounded education, including the functional skills in English, maths and ICT and the thinking and learning skills that employers and Universities are after.
CILT, the National Centre for Languages, has prepared a range of information and support for the Diploma in Languages and International Communication.
There will also be an Advanced Diploma available which has been developed in close consultation with both higher education and employers to give students the skills and knowledge they need to progress into further study, and at the same time preparing them for the world of work.
