LINKS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES
The North East Regional Centre at Newcastle University will be hosting its first Links Professional Development Course “Innovative Curriculum Design in Languages: exploring opportunities for a more engaging and meaningful curriculum” on Wednesday 14th October 2009. The course will show you how to re-invigorate learning through curriculum design, with particular reference to students’ language, exploring opportunities to raise attainment and increase pupils' independence through a more engaging and meaningful curriculum. It will cover innovative curriculum design, meaningful contexts for meaningful learning, up-skilling for linguistic independence and raising expectations.

This course is the first of 5 secondary, 4 primary and 1 post 16 core training modules to be offered as part of the national provision from Links. Please check the website regularly as more training sessions are to be uploaded over the coming weeks.

LINKS PROJECTS
Projects, networks and other initiatives in which you may be interested, will be posted here.

Building on the success of last year's work, we are continuing with the 14-19 Networks that were launched to look at teaching and learning of gifted pupils GCSE and AS / A2. The groups looked at how online video and other ICT based facilities could be dovetailed with Thinking Skills activities to develop the Personal Learning and Vocational Skills that are vital for success in Higher Education. Some of this work has recently been published in the Association for Language Learning's 'Francophonie' journal and will be recorded for a CILT 14-19 case study.

We are very keen to broaden our repertoire of ideas and welcome new members on board. The groups will run in different areas of the region. Anyone interested in finding out more about this unique and high profile CPD opportunity can click contact zhammond@hotmail.co.uk for further information.
