The day started with a good lunch and the opportunity to network and share practices and needs in relation to the current changing climate in secondary. Dr Marina Mozzon-McPherson explored with participants the idea of creating local networks of teachers and/or supporting existing ones as part of the Regional Centre role of Links into Languages. Specific areas of interest were identified such as development of on tap resources and the creation of new ALL networks in areas such as Hull and North Yorkshire. The training event started at 13.00 with an excellent interactive session by Wendy Adeniji. The focus was on providing practical examples of ways in which to integrate New Curriculum ideas into Year 7 and Year 8 schemes of work. Free resources were given to delegates including details of useful websites to visit, a full guide to the New Secondary Curriculum for Languages and notes for curriculum leaders.
Delegates participated in quizzes and a range of diverse activities using films, music and digital media.
Feedback was extremely positive with requests for follow-up sessions from those who attended.
Links YH will include sessions on use of music, films and other media as part of its specific regional calendar of events in 2009-10.
