As you will have read in previous e-bulletins, and in the recent announcement from the Links national team, the Links into Languages programme will end on 31st March 2011. Following the government's decision to give greater autonomy to schools in matters of professional development, the Department for Education has decided not to extend the contract awarded to the Links into Languages programme. The Links South East team would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation in our activities, and for your support and enthusiasm over the last two years.

On 1st April 2011, the Network for Languages is launched, and the University of Southampton will represent the South East. This new university network, consisting of the nine former Links into Languages regional centres, is committed to excellence in language learning and teaching in all settings, sectors and phases. For more information about the network and its members, please visit the website which goes live on 1st April: www.networkforlanguages.org.uk

Here at Southampton, we will be working closely with the Modern Languages department and the Subject Centre for Languages Linguistics and Area Studies, to support languages teachers and build up a programme of CPD on offer across the region. Activities for 2011-2012 are currently being developed and will be displayed soon at www.llas.ac.uk/southeast . As under Links, we will continue to advertise other CPD and support opportunities that take place in the South East too. If you have any ideas, comments and requests for CPD in the coming year, please do contact Zena Hilton on the details below.
