Gateshead Local Authority is celebrating after The Dryden Centre  was named as the latest NE Links  Local Centre. Collecting the award from Links NE Regional Manager, Tracy Lertoria, on behalf of  Gateshead LA was Dr Ian Stanton of Cardinal Hume School in Wrekenton. He had collaborated with Gateshead's MFL adviser, Catherine Barrett and the Dryden Centre's Kaye Halliman  on putting together an application to Links NE for the award. It brings the number of LLCs (Links Local Centres) in the NE to nine, all of which  run CPD sessions and activities for primary, secondary and FE staff. They are all equipped with conference-style accomodation and facilities, which enable them to deliver collaborative regional CPD events with Links NE.

There are many benefits of becoming a Links Local Centre, such as , funding available for staff CPD resources, an opportunity to deliver in-house, specific CPD for your own staff and cluster schools and the chance to be involved in a larger, regionwide event with national trainers provided by Links into Languages. If you are interested in taking your school forward in this direction, there is still time to put in an application to become a LLC, simply contact the Links office and request an application form. Here are the other eight current NE Links Local Centres:

Gosforth High School in Newcastle, Hummersknott Language College in Darlington, Ian Ramsey in Stockton, Macmillan Academy in Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough Local Authority-MTLC, Teesdale School in Barnard Castle, St.Aidan's and St. Anthony's Catholic Girls' School, both in Sunderland.

We are partciularly interested to hear from primary schools and schools in Northumberland wishing to apply for the status.
