National Director for Languages, Lid King, held a briefing at Newcastle University on March 4th for Local Authority advisers and representatives from the region's universities, to give more detailed information on the new Primary Upskilling specification. There was a large turnout for the event which was led by Lid himself, with Carmel O'Hagen leading a practical hands-on session after Lid's introductory presentation. Delegates were given copies of the new specification and were asked to share experiences on what was the best way forward for them individually. Links NE has already begun collaborations with a number of interested authorities who are looking at creative ways of both, delivering and accrediting the Upskilling courses. There are plans for Links NE to lead a series of Upskilling Immersion Residentials in 2010-2011, both in the North and in the South of the region to clusters of Local Authorities. Keep an eye on the Events page, as we will calendar them in once the venues have been confirmed.
