Practical classroom resources for Newly Qualified Teachers and PGCE students

Region: National [More National news...]

Links into Languages will be at this year’s Language World 2010 in York, Friday 26th and Saturday 27th March. Links will be hosting refreshments for Newly Qualified Teachers and PGCE students on the Friday at 11.15-11.45 and on the Saturday at 10.35 – 11.15 (details from Links Stand) where they will have the opportunity to meet members of our national and regional teams and receive information about the government-funded Links continuing professional development courses that support the National Languages Strategy. Anyone who signs up to the Links mailing list at the conference will be entered into a prize draw for a free place on a core course (terms and conditions apply).

Links is encouraging these new teachers and students to attend the conference session ‘Engaging with CPD’ run by Kate Green, Links Deputy Director and Fi Cotton, Independent Consultant on Friday 26th at 10.20-11.15. This session will explore the core programme of Links primary and secondary courses with key activities to demonstrate different approaches to accessing CPD and training. The session will address issues such as the Key Stage 2 and 3 Frameworks for Languages and their role in planning and progression, and provide practical examples of how the frameworks and their objectives and outcomes can be developed through strong classroom methodology. The current challenges concerning CPD, training for primary and secondary teachers and information about funding streams will also be covered.

Delegates who have attended Links courses have been able to use the practical resources from the courses in the classroom the very next day, and feel that their presence on the course provided them with ‘superb resources … a varied and interesting mix of activities throughout the day’ (Delegate attending S03 The Interactive Classroom). We look forward to receiving the same feedback from these new teachers and students too.

The Links team will be available to answer your questions and tell you more about the Links programme throughout the conference. Visit us at Stand 30.
