15 active and innovative primary school teachers came together on the 11 February to explore ideas for curricular integration in languages. The event was hosted by one of the Links local centres, the Languages networks of excellence at the University of Wolverhampton.

The trainer, Pippa Jacobs, has years of experience as a primary school teacher and has also participated in the CILT's pilot project on integrating languages. She was happy to share her expertise with the participants and raise their curiosity and tickle their thinking buds. Some participants had more experience in integrating languages and they were able to advice their colleagues in discussions as to what works best. Pippa showed a range of activities and the teachers got the chance to try out some labelling activities in a history task (see photo).

During the course all participants had the chance to reflect on their current activities and to think where they could take a step towards deeper integration. Pippa reminded everyone how small steps are as important, and the easiest start is to begin by using the target language in the daily routines and taking it further to sports and art. One of the participants had combined history, French and art by going through the colours and shapes in the Egyptian art in the target language. She had also compared the weather in the UK and Egypt in her language classes.

The participants were able to share several examples of good practice and went home with all Pippa's resources and much more.
