Collaboration for creative learning
The mentor will provide support and guidance during the project, particularly in relation to classroom research, curriculum development, aspects of pedagogy and project management.
When nominating a mentor, it is important to choose someone who has the required skills and experience. This is an important role, and we recommend that you choose someone you know and perhaps have worked with previously, such as an initial teacher trainer.
A mentor may be a senior member of staff in your own or a partner institution, but not someone who is involved directly in project activities.
Projects led by a university or local authority may wish to nominate a mentor from a different institution or organisation who has particularly relevant expertise and/or can bring a fresh perspective. This could be a ‘long distance’ mentor who can support through virtual networking.
There is further information about the mentor role and the skills and experience required in the Mentoring Guidelines (downloadable from the introduction page).
If they have agreed to support the project, please ask your proposed mentor to complete the mentor application form (downloadable from the introduction page). The form should be emailed to us at the same time as the main application. LinkedUp reserves the right not to approve the mentor nomination, based on the information provided. If this happens, we will request additional information or discuss with you an alternative choice.
Mentors receive an honorarium of £500 and are expected to give the equivalent of two days of their time to support the project throughout its duration, the equivalent of around one hour per fortnight. Most support is likely to be through phone, email or online discussion. You do not need to include the honorarium in your budget, as it is paid directly to the mentor by the Association for Language Learning.
If you would like help in choosing a mentor, please contact LinkedUp at least 2-3 weeks before submitting your application.
Please note that CILT will arrange a mentor for employer engagement projects so you should not nominate a mentor on the application form.
