Ten new Links professional development courses are now on offer in each of the regions. Written by nationally recognised experts and their development coordinated by SSAT, the courses address current priorities for languages and provide an innovative and inspiring programme.
The overall focus will be on raising achievement and increasing learners’ motivation. These courses will be relevant for all teachers and classroom assistants and will be delivered by a network of experienced trainers in the field.

This course is important for Head teachers and subject coordinators. The course is divided into three modules. The first module will develop the role of the subject coordinator and cover generic skills, including leadership for languages and implementation of the curriculum. The second module will address the primary language landscape. It will explore the role of language learning at primary level, examine the KS2 framework and Impact of the Rose review and cover progression and transition. In addition, the second module will present possible models and the languages that could be taught. In the final module, participants will be offered a choice: either a case study presented by a regional Initial Teacher Training coordinator; or the exploration of a unit of work from QCA scheme of work.

This course is aimed at all language teachers, Higher Level Teaching Assistants and Newly Qualified Teachers. This course is divided into two modules. The first module will explore the new GCSE, looking specifically at generic elements and the different exam boards, and at the controlled assessments, speaking and writing. The second module will cover the Languages Diploma and International Communication, and the third module will address what is allowed in the Additional Specialist Learning of the main diploma lines and other qualifications.
