Session overview: In this session we will look at the changes to the New National Curriculum for Languages at KS3 and have the opportunity to discuss activities which have been successful in motivating pupils, whilst embracing creativity and learning linked to the new Programme of Study.
Maria Collins lives with her family in Nottingham and currently teaches at Rushcliffe School, where she is also Leading Teacher in Gifted and Talented Provision. In her previous schools she has also been Head of Modern Languages and Assistant Head for Professional Development.
Since becoming an AST 3 years ago, Maria has focused on organising language events on behalf of the LA for Gifted and Talented linguists across the County. She has also worked closely with the local feeder primary schools to develop a unified approach to the teaching of languages at KS2 and to ensure a smooth transition to KS3 MFL. She has run a series of SLN meetings this year for MFL teachers focusing on the revised KS3 Framework and cross-curricular opportunities in languages.
Maria has recently become a Regional Support Adviser for ALL for the East Midlands and enjoys sharing ideas with teachers who are embracing the new KS3 Programme of Study and Framework.
