The course is very interactive and practical. Delegates will be given time to explore the principles of the New Secondary Curriculum and consider the implications for KS3 and KS4 curriculum design in languages. There will be practical examples from other schools and case studies for delegates to take back to school and disseminate and discuss with other colleagues in to facilitate departmental or whole-school developments. Teachers will be shown how the principles of innovative curriculum design are reflected in the Renewed Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages and in the revised GCSE criteria.
This course aims to help participants to:
• Explore curriculum design in languages from a number of different, but related, angles.
• Clarify what kind of changes you would like to make at school through considering some examples of successful practice.
• Share and discuss ideas with colleagues.
It is divided into three modules. The first module looks at a number of cross curriculum approaches including examples of links with art, history and business & enterprise. The second module examines developing thinking skills with a clear language purpose including PLTs, memorisation skills and mind mapping. The third module looks at CLIL, fast-tracking GCSE, NVQ in Business Languages in Year 9 and beyond, and learning beyond the classroom.
Each participant will receive a USB stick containing all the course materials including Powerpoints and a variety of resources which can be used to disseminate training to colleagues.
This course will be delivered by Wendy Adeniji. Wendy taught French, Spanish and German for 10 years and now works as a trainer and consultant.
