Summary
Understanding the context of the Key Stage 2 framework for languages and how it is structured is an essential part of preparing your school for statutory provision of languages in the curriculum. Having a good repertoire of teaching strategies and ideas that are rooted in the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is what most primary teachers want to develop.
Knowing how to approach teaching and learning in the strands of literacy, oracy and intercultural understanding is new territory for many teachers and the practical sessions of this course address this very clearly.
The course is very interactive and practical. You will not be required to have any prior knowledge of the Key Stage 2 framework.
The course will help you to:
- Understand why the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is an essential tool for improving lesson planning and planning schemes of work
- Understand how the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is structured
- Understand the expectations and outcomes of the literacy and oracy strands for all years in Key Stage 2
- Understand the expectations and outcomes of the Intercultural Understanding strand for all years in Key Stage 2
- Use a wide range of teaching activities to secure progression in the literacy, oracy and intercultural understanding strands
- Know how to use the online Primary Training Zone and its media library
- Explore how the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages fits into the wider context of the National Curriculum Programme of Study for languages, National Curriculum levels, primary curriculum review, Key Stage 3 Framework For Languages, etc.

Cost
- In order to cover our direct costs, e.g. catering and guest speaker expenses, we charge £50 to attend this event.
- Refreshments will be provided.
- Each participant will receive a USB stick containing all the course
materials including PowerPoints and a variety of resources which can
be used to disseminate training to colleagues.
- Once you have registered to attend an event, you will be contacted by your regional Links administrator who will send you payment instructions.
