Summary

The renewed KS3 Framework for Languages gives a practical structure to help teachers to secure this progression and this course will allow teachers time to consider it in context, to discuss ideas with other colleagues and to return to school with a clear rationale for how and why the KS3 Framework for Languages should be used.

The course is very interactive and practical. You will not be required to have any prior knowledge of the current or previous framework.

The course will help you to:

  • Understand the differences between the previous Key Stage 3 Framework and the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages
  • Understand why the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages is an essential tool for improving lesson planning and planning schemes of work
  • Understand how the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages and the Key Stage 2 framework for languages work together
  • Understand how the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages is structured

Trainer

Name: Fiona Cotton

Fiona Cotton has twenty years experience of working in local comprehensive schools and since 2002 has worked as the Solihull consultant for languages, managing the primary languages strategy for the Local Authority, KS2-3 transition in languages and has a whole school role for assessment and learning. She leads the policy development for languages in the LA and coordinates programmes of CPD for teachers and senior leaders.

 In addition to her LA work, Fiona has contributed to National Strategy materials to support primary language teachers and senior leaders in self-evaluation. She posesses also an extensive experience at the KS3 level and has worked for the National Strategy languages team as a reviewer of the renewed KS3 framework.

 She is a highly experienced and well established trainer, and the participants in this course will recieve an extensive resources pack of teaching material to be implemented in the classroom.

Cost

  • In order to cover our direct costs, e.g. catering and guest speaker expenses, we charge £50 to attend this event.
  • Refreshments will be provided.
  • Each participant will receive a USB stick containing all the course materials including PowerPoints and a variety of resources which can be used to disseminate training to colleagues.
