This practical workshop will give you ready-to-use resources to bring your MFL classroom alive, and get the debate going on topics that interest your learners. There will be opportunities to explore the contribution Modern Foreign Languages can make to teaching about global issues, through practical classroom activities including the use of images, music and artefacts. The course is designed to respond to the Intercultural Understanding strand of the KS3 Framework for Languages.
Facilitated by Fiona Cotton - Solihull Consultant for Languages - and TIDEGlobal Learning in partnership with Links into Languages.
The course fee of £75 includes a copy of the handbook Enabling global learning through the KS3 curriculum.

Fiona Cotton has twenty years experience of working in local comprehensive schools and since 2002 has worked as the Solihull consultant for languages, managing the primary languages strategy for the Local Authority, KS2-3 transition in languages and has a whole school role for assessment and learning. She leads the policy development for languages in the LA and coordinates programmes of CPD for teachers and senior leaders. Currently she is leading work for Cilt and mentoring a LinkedUp project on Intercultural understanding within the languages community.
In addition to her LA work, Fiona has contributed to National Strategy materials to support primary language teachers and senior leaders in self-evaluation. She has extensive experience at KS3 and has worked for the National Strategy languages team as a reviewer of the renewed KS3 framework.
Jackie Zammit has been a member of the Projects Team at Tide~ global learning since 2001. Her particular interests are school partnerships [national and global], the use of story to raise issues at KS1,2 and 3, Cities as a focus for cross-curricular work at KS3 and supporting teachers to plan global learning as part of their curriculum.
