Building an integrated approach allows teachers and pupils to explore learning in an innovative, creative and challenging way. It also gives pupils real purpose to their learning which is not only highly motivating but can boost achievement and improve behaviour. The integrated approach also enables gifted and talented learners to demonstrate learning at higher levels without being restricted by a developing grasp of the language taught.
This course will allow teachers to work together to understand the guiding principles of integrating languages and other curriculum areas, particularly literacy. Delegates will be given lots of practical examples of activities to use and resources to support planning integrated curricula. There will be opportunities to evaluate critically any current links that exist and to strengthen and develop these. Delegates will not be required to have any prior knowledge of the Key Stage 2 framework for languages.
This course will be delivered by Pippa Jacobs. Pippa has substantial experience teaching both KS1 and KS2 before becoming a Primary Languages Specialist at Oxfordshire County Council. She has several further roles including an associate tutor at Oxford Brookes where Pippa also lectures on the subject of CLIL, and a language coach for a number of Oxfordshire schools.
