The GCSE has undergone massive changes in the last two years, providing students with more flexibility than ever and more chances to succeed. This has brought about differences in teaching and learning required in Key Stage 4 and caused teachers to reevaluate their practice during these vital two years. With speaking and writing now worth 30% each, the emphasis for teaching and learning has changed. This course will demonstrate how standards can be raised throughout GCSE to ensure maximum success for all.
The emphasis of the day will be placed firmly on what works well at Key Stage 4. Delegates will leave with a wide range of ideas to improve standards, including activities which can be used in lessons the very next day. Consideration will be given to planning for success, including examples of medium term Schemes of Work which have been used in the run-up to controlled assessments. Practical activities will be demonstrated which can help pupils succeed in writing and speaking assessments. This course will help you make students’ post-14 language-learning experience a successful one!
This course will be delivered by Juliet Park. Juliet is a Regional Advisor and Lead Practitioner for SSAT and she regularly speaks at regional and national events, in particular on alternative qualifications and the new curriculum. She is also Director MFL at Yewlands, where she has tripled uptake and attainment through the NVQ pathway and through fully funded work experience trips abroad. Juliet supports teachers wishing to set up the NVQ with Assessor training and has written case studies, as well as authoring materials for CILT and co-writing a new scheme of work for year 7s in line with the new curriculum and the new KS3 framework.
