Understanding the context of the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages and how it is structured is an essential part of preparing your school for statutory provision of languages in the curriculum. Having a good repertoire of teaching strategies and ideas that are rooted in the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is what most primary teachers want to develop.
Knowing how to approach teaching and learning in the strands of literacy, oracy and intercultural understanding is new territory for many teachers and the practical sessions of this course address this very clearly.
The course is very interactive and practical. You will not be required to have any prior knowledge of the Key Stage 2 Framework.
9.30am-3.30pm
This course will be delivered by Catherine Cheater. Catherine is an acknowledged national expert in early language learning. She has experience in teaching languages to all age groups from nursery to A-Level, and has been involved in advisory work since the 1990s. Formerly Senior Language Teaching Adviser at CILT, The National Centre for Languages, she has co-written two CILT Young Pathfinders: YP6 Let’s Join In! and YP9 The Literacy Link. She is the author of The Catherine Cheater Scheme of Work for French published by Golden Daffodils Ltd. In 2004 she was made Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques in recognition of her contribution to the teaching of French in primary schools in the UK.
