Summary

Understanding the context of the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages and how it is structured is an essential part of preparing your school for statutory provision of languages in the curriculum. Having a good repertoire of teaching strategies and ideas that are rooted in the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages is what most primary teachers want to develop.
Knowing how to approach teaching and learning in the strands of literacy, oracy and intercultural understanding is new territory for many teachers and the practical sessions of this course address this very clearly.

There are three modules in this course:

Innovative classroom strategies
Methodology in literacy (reading and writing) and oracy (listening and speaking)
Intercultural understanding: Exploring the strand

The course is very interactive and practical. You will not be required to have any prior knowledge of the Key Stage 2 Framework.

The course will help you to:

Understand why the Key Stage 2 framework is an essential tool for improving lesson planning and planning schemes of work
Understand how the Key Stage 2 framework is structured
Understand the expectations and outcomes of the literacy and oracy strands for all years in Key Stage 2
Understand the expectations and outcomes of the intercultural understanding strand for all years in Key Stage 2
Use a wide range of teaching activities to secure progression in the literacy, oracy and intercultural understanding strands
Know how to use the online Primary Training Zone and its media library
Explore how the Key Stage 2 framework fits into the wider context of the National Curriculum Programme of Study for Languages, primary curriculum review and the Key Stage 3 Framework for Langugaes.

Trainer: Mrs Wendy Adeniji

This course will be delivered by Wendy Adeniji. Wendy taught French, Spanish and German for 10 years and now works as a trainer and consultant. She is the lead tutor for the CILT Graduate Teacher Programme in Leeds and regularly delivers MFL-specific interactive whiteboard training in schools. She has also acted as a consultant for the BBC digital curriculum, is the ICT consultant for Comenius Yorkshire and the Humber and has recently acted as consultant for a KS3 Strategy project relating to how interactive whiteboards can improve learning modern languages. She is the MFL moderator for the Ngfl Teacher Resource Exchange and writes regularly for the TES on matters relating to MFL.

Cost

In order to cover our direct costs, e.g. catering and speaker expenses, we charge £50 to attend this event.
Lunch and take-home resources will be provided.
