East Midlands SSAT Regional Languages Network Meeting

Summary

This event has a practical focus on raising achievement in languages, and is aimed at teachers and subject leaders with responsibility for leading and implementing languages related activities in their school.   It will be particularly valuable to directors of specialism and heads of languages, but can be useful for all teachers of languages with regard to CPD and networking.

The programme for this meeting has now been largely finalised and includes some key areas of real interest requested by delegates at the last meeting:
 

  • National update: Alice Harrison, National Coordinator for languages at the SSAT.
  • Increasing student engagement using Smart board notebook software including new resources for interactive teaching in the primary school: Karsten Stephan, Alderman White School and Language College.
  • Musubi project: an exciting new project being led by South Wolds students who lead conferences teaching Japanese language and culture related to the 2012 Olympics: Anne Rajakumar, South Wolds Community School.
  • Teaching history to years 7 and 9 through French: Rachel Robinson, South Wolds Community School.
  • Support available for schools, pupils and staff through higher education awareness-raising activities, and curriculum enrichment opportunities: Languages and International Studies / Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach, Nottingham Trent University.

The meeting will also provide opportunities for networking and discussion with colleagues from across the region.

The renewed specialist programme has a key focus on language colleges as centres of excellence being outward facing. If you are a language college you may like to invite your partner secondary schools to attend this meeting with you.  If you are not a language college, you are also very welcome to attend this meeting and if you would like to book a place, please contact Jessica Page at SSAT.
