The aim of the course is to build participants’ confidence in French and is ideal for those who feel that they would benefit from experiencing some practical activities to enhance their teaching of Primary Languages.
There will be some basic upskilling during the morning session through some hands-on activities. The afternoon session will look at activities which are cross curricular, linked to some of the units from the QCA scheme of work and the Primary Languages Framework, and can be used by teachers with little/some experience of French.
Rita Davidson is a primary languages consultant working with schools in Telford and Wrekin. Prior to taking on the role of consultant, Rita taught in primary schools in London, Merthyr Tydfil and from 1986 was Deputy Headteacher at a Primary School in Newport, Shropshire. She was also a Lead Teacher for Primary Languages for Telford and Wrekin Authority, supporting schools and working alongside the Primary Languages adviser delivering training to staff.
She has taught French, Italian and Spanish at Primary level, and has coordinated several Comenius projects and pupil exchange visits within her previous schools. Rita currently delivers CPD and works with Senior Management teams, coordinators, teaching staff and TA through visits to schools, staff meetings, upskilling sessions and workshops for pupils.
Having taught until recently, Rita feels that she understands the challenges faced by teachers in delivering Primary Languages in an already packed curriculum and through her training sessions aspires to provide teachers with the motivation, confidence, enthusiasm, practical advice and resources to take teachers forward in the provision of a primary language.
