Summary

A hands-on introduction to two freely available tools for manipulating large bodies of text (corpora) in order to extract and analyse examples of language relevat to language teachers - both specialists, and non-specialists. This session will demonstrate how you can find relevant, authentic examples from the internet using search words.

Outcomes

You will:

  • discuss how to find appropriate authentic texts and use them with pupils
  • use Antconc to create a home made corpus to use in MFL lessons
  • use Webcorp to query the internet as if it was a corpus
  • be able to create worksheets for different purposes and at different levels

Learning and teaching support manager A former EFL teacher and IT professional, David supports staff and students using ICT in learning and teaching. His PhD focus is on ICT facilitated learning.
