Summary

The workshop will introduce delegates to two exciting language learning initiatives:


Story Making is about telling stories together rather than reading from books.  It builds
children’s confidence and helps to improve speaking and writing in the target language in fun,
creative ways.  As a shared approach in Key Stages 2 and 3 it can help to ensure a smooth
transition between key stages.

Higher Order Thinking Skills are powerful tools for motivating pupils and improving their
language learning skills.  This session will share practical ways to incorporate HOTS into
language lessons

Programme

Time: 9.30am - 12.30pm with refreshments from 9.00am.

Trainer

Workshop Leaders: Jo Cole, ILRC, and Jane Humphris, Hardenhuish School, Wiltshire.
Jo is a Senior Consultant at the ILRC and leads the Story Making project..  Jane is a member of the MFL
team at Hardenhuish School, Chippenham and is a member of the KS3 Story Making group.
 
Workshop leader: Sarah Giller, West Moors Middle School, Dorset. . Sarah is a Regional
Subject Adviser for the new secondary curriculum and a Lead Teacher in Dorset.
