Summary

The renewed KS3 Framework for Languages gives a practical structure to help teachers to secure this progression and this course will allow teachers time to consider it in context, to discuss ideas with other colleagues and to return to school with a clear rationale for how and why the KS3 Framework for Languages should be used.

The course is very interactive and practical. You will not be required to have any prior knowledge of the current or previous framework.

The course will help you to:

  • Understand the differences between the previous Key Stage 3 Framework and the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages
  • Understand why the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages is an essential tool for improving lesson planning and planning schemes of work
  • Understand how the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages and the Key Stage 2 framework for languages work together
  • Understand how the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages is structured
  • Be familiar with the learning objectives of the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages
  • Use the extensive exemplification of the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages
  • Use the guidance that supports the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages
  • Develop ideas about approaches to the mixed-experience year 7 class
  • Know how to use the framework and its supporting materials online
  • Know how to use the online CPD materials
  • Explore how the Key Stage 3 Framework for Languages fits into the wider context of the National Curriculum Programme of Study for languages, National Curriculum levels, etc.

Programme

The registration starts at 9.45 for a 10 am start

The course is divided into four sessions:
• Introduction to the Framework.
• Introduction to the online Framework and the associated materials.
• Introduction to two renewed e-learning modules.
• How the Framework can improve teaching and learning

Each participant will also receive a USB stick containing all the course materials including PowerPoints and a variety of resources which can be used to disseminate training to colleagues.

Trainer: Mrs. Fiona Cotton

This course will be delivered by Fi Cotton. Fi has twenty years experience of working in local comprehensive schools and is now the Solihull consultant for languages, managing the primary languages strategy, KS2-3 transition in languages and has a whole school role for assessment and learning. She is a highly experienced and well established trainer.

Cost

  • In order to cover our direct costs, e.g. catering and guest speaker expenses, we charge £50 to attend this event.
  • Refreshments will be provided.
  • Each participant will receive a USB stick containing all the course materials including PowerPoints and a variety of resources which can be used to disseminate training to colleagues.
