Programme Director

Mike Kelly is a specialist in modern French culture and society, especially the history of ideas and Franco-British cultural relations. He plays a leading role in developing public policy on languages and cultural diversity, in the UK and across Europe. He is Director of the UK Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, within the Higher Education Academy, and Hon. Secretary of the European Language Council.

Mike is currently Head of the School of Humanities at the University of Southampton, and is strongly committed to encouraging collaborative projects in research and education that bring together specialists from several disciplines and from several countries.

Assistant Director (Operations)

Liz has an MA in French and German from the University of St Andrews, and a PGCE from the University of Cambridge. She taught French and German in a school in Suffolk for ten years before studying for the Diploma in European Business Administration.

She has worked in Higher Education since 1998, first as a Faculty Registrar at Bucks New University. She joined LLAS as Centre Manager soon after its inception in May 2000 and became the Assistant Director (Operations) in 2009.

Deputy Director

Linda works as a Deputy Director for Links with responsibility for Marketing and Communications. Linda has experience in the field of communications, research, training and management for languages and intercultural skills-related projects across the education, business, private and public sectors across Europe.

Deputy Director

Kate, previously a secondary languages specialist with additional experience at primary level, Adult Education and in EFL, was also an examiner and an examinations officer before taking up a post in a national awarding body where she was responsible for a suite of GCSE languages. She devised and developed the Languages Ladder scheme and worked on the Asset Languages qualifications. More recently she has been working for The Languages Company on the secondary strand of the National Languages Strategy.

Laurence started at Southampton in July 2009. She works closely with the Links into Languages Regional Centres and monitors their progress.
